Day Trip to Richmond, VA

This past weekend my sister and I decided to drive the 2 hours down to Richmond, VA for the day. We decided to go to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Then we headed to lunch and the Edgar Allen Poe Museum. We made our way over to St. John's Church and an  overlook before heading over to Carytown for dinner.

The first stop we did was the botanical gardens. It was so beautiful. They have big grounds including a greenhouse, butterfly room, a lake, and gardens.

While in the butterfly room, they let out some new ones and one even landed on my phone for a little while.

For my outfit that day, I knew we were going to do a lot of walking outside and the high was 89°. I went with a plain shirtflowy skirt, and nice sandals. I also went with minimal accessories.

Shirt & Skirt: H&M ; Sandals & Sunglasses : Payless

While at the garden they were having a lego exhibit. They had them of all different kinds of animals, plants, people, and insects. I included this picture of th
e buffalo and calf. Can you guess how many legos were used in these to animals?

Mother = 45,143 pieces ; Calf = 16,229 pieces

The flowers were lovely all around. The rose garden wa
s in full bloom which was surprising. They also had their vegetable/fruit gardens going.

The scenery was so beautiful in all areas of the grounds. They had some hidden areas that made you feel like you were just in the middle of nature and could only here the sounds of the insects and water.

After lunch we headed to the Poe Museum. We weren't able to get many photos as you aren't allowed to take photos of the actual exhibits. It was cool to see some of the things that were owned by him and his family. I also learned a little more about him as a person.

Once we were done at the museum we headed to St. John's Church which is the famous church of Patrick Henry's speech "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death". We weren't able to go inside the church but it was beautiful and it was interesting how they had the graveyard almost right up the the church. From the church we headed over to a little park which overlooked the James River. It was a little overcast but it was still beautiful.

I always love traveling whether it is 30 min away or 30 hours away. I think there are so many unique things to learn and see around the world that unless you find some, you live in a little bubble. Always go out and find new places to explore and new things to discover.

If you could go on a day trip around you, where would you go?
